Winter Solstice Celebration

By admin • January 5th, 2009

On a blustery subzero evening we celebrated Winter Solstice at Earth Spirit Healing Center in Mexico, Maine.  Seven were present to honor the Seven Directions.

We began by building a Peruvian Despacho which we placed our prayers and intentions into for healing, prosperity, peace and light for the New Year.

After assembling the Despacho with leaves, flowers, grains, chocolate, rainbow yarn, seeds, etc. it was time to bless the offerings for Earth Mother, or as they would say in Peru, Pacha Mama.

The Despacho was wrapped and tied together with string and then used to wipe down each person as they energetically released what they wanted to let go of into the Despacho.

We partook of a beautiful buffet of nourishing food, drummed, rattled, sang and chanted, raising our energy before heading outside to light the fire and offer the Despacho to Earth Mother.

As I stated earlier, the temperature outside was below zero and Sister Wind was blowing up a gail; hence, lighting our fire was a tricky task.  We used our bodies and a piece of cardboard as a wind break, all the while asking for assistance from our ancestors.  It worked, we were able to offer our Despacho and turned our backs as it burned, taking what we did not want anymore into Earth and up into the Heavens.  Once it was complete we each took a cedar bow, blew our prayers and intentions into it for the New Year, released that into fire and then brought the essence of fire into our own bodies.

As you can see, our fire was not a large roaring fire, but we felt privaledged to have the opportunity despite the wind to be able to even create a fire at all.  When everyone was done with their offerings we joined in a circle around the fire and sang once more to celebrate our gathering.

It was decided that we will hold a monthly drumming circle.  Keep watch for the dates of such happenings as I develope my future web site, it should be up and running by months end.

In the meantime, be well my friends and do one thing that will make your life happier and more full of Light and Love.

Love & Joy,

Rhonda
